Here is a brief powerpoint deck on startup metrics from a talk i gave at Supernova called "Product Marketing for Pirates: AARRR!". It's about how to develop a model of your customer behavior, and then use conversion metrics / web analytics to assist your internet marketing & product management efforts.
The basic concept is based on 5 types of measurements of user behavior:
- A: Acquisition - where / what channels do users come from?
- A: Activation - what % have a "happy" initial experience?
- R: Retention - do they come back & re-visit over time?
- R: Referral - do they like it enough to tell their friends?
- R: Revenue - can you monetize any of this behavior?
(... otherwise known as "AARRR!", and thus the "Pirate" designation ;)
i'll post more on this later -- for now, here are a few pretty pictures:
ps - National Talk Like a Pirate Day is September 19... AARRR!
This is really useful to help think about metrics .. I am wondering if you uploaded your slide deck to slideshare -- I would love to blog about it and share with my readers. Also, it would be so cool to have you narrate - maybe using the flickr photos and something like voicethreads? It is really easy to use.

Nice stuff... tough to keep track of all that is happening. I end up reading 100 odd blogs daily. Plus there is news. You could also enrich your blog by adding current news on your blog... try out the news widget from widgetmate.com

hey Ted -
thanks for the feedback. the link at the top of the post goes to a very brief 5-6 slide deck, but that's all i have at the moment. the talk was only about 10 min, altho i'm working on expanding it & the presentation into a little bit longer format. (will send you something to review as soon as the muse takes me there ;)

Looks great. Wish I could have caught the presentation. Can you post the rest of the slides or is there an audio or video of the preso?
Best!
