Went to NYC this past weekend -- Saya was playing at the Blue Note... cool :)
The city is still a little *too* big for me... just too damn many people in one place i think. But i must admit, they make the best pizza in the world there. And the one benefit of all that sheer density of humanity is that you can find great stuff to do all over the place -- the arts, music, sports, business, etc. but i still don't know if i can deal with all the trash on the street and the amazing amount of crap that comes from having millions of people in a few square miles. not to mention the fact that somewhere, some terrorists are actively trying to blow the place up. yeah, that's a distinct drawback i think.
also went to Ground Zero. very sobering. kind of amazing to see how huge that area was... now just empty space, until they decide what to build there. i remember seeing the World Trade Center towers when i was about 10 or 12 years old in the late 70's. looking up at those huge towers, the incredible scale of view made my legs go wobbly, it was so hard to take it all in. amazing that much steel and concrete turned to rubble in just a few minutes. and several thousand people who lost their lives that day.
anyway, all things said, New York is a pretty interesting place. but then again, i'm also happy to be back home in California...
